Re:       COVID-19 and School Attendance

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members,

I would like to take the time to thank all community members for their patience, support and understanding as we respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. As I have said several times, there is no book that has been written on how to deal with this pandemic and every school and community is different in how they respond to the pandemic.  This pandemic is very demanding on everyone and I am proud of the way our community leaders, staff, parents/guardians, community members, and students have responded to this adversity.

Kispiox Community School has made a concerted effort to reach out to the many families we have by providing education via in-class learning, remote learning, and pods. However, for education to be successful, it takes the parents/guardians, students, and school to be working together. As our delivery methods evolve, we are hoping that we can reach all our registered students, so that once this pandemic is over each student is meeting expectations with their education. We thoroughly understand and respect parents’ concerns and whatever direction they decide to take for their child’s education on.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown to be very fluid and constantly changing, so with that we are making more of an effort to place staff right in the communities we serve for those who do not prefer in-class instruction.  We have had some delays because of staffing issues, but as we work out the bugs things are getting better. With that, I would like to encourage parents to utilize one of the paths to education that we are offering to minimize any learning loss that may occur due to the pandemic. Attendance has been a bit of an issue, so as parents we need to encourage our children to participate as much as possible and have our children do their best. As the festive season nears, I wish you the best and take care of yourself and your family.

Sincerely,

Brian Muldon
