Re: Kispiox Community COVID-19 Lockdown

Dear parents/ guardians,

As many of you have probably heard by now there have been confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Moricetown. For safety reasons, Kispiox Band Council and the EOC team made an announcement on September 18th, 2020 that people who are classified as outsiders, people who do not reside in Kispiox, will not be permitted into the village. Only people who provide essential services will be allowed to enter the village. It is not only important to provide safety for the students and community, but it is also important that we look out for the safety of our staff. Moricetown, Gitsegukla, Gitwangak, and Gitanyow have all closed their schools temporarily until it is declared safe to return.

Most of our teachers do not reside in Kispiox, so at this time the school will have to close for in class instruction until we are given clearance that it is safe to do so. However, Kispiox Community School recognizes that it is important to provide our children with an education, so we are working on providing a combination of online learning and distributed education in case this lock out becomes prolonged. We still have many packages for those online students that were to be delivered this week and we will try to deliver them in a safe manner. At this time teachers and staff will be working from home until we get the go ahead that it is safe to return to in-class instruction. I would like to send out a special thanks to the whole staff for working so hard in the first week and making it a tremendous success.

Sincerely,

Brian Muldon Principal
