RE:  Potential COVID-19 Exposure to staff at Kispiox Community School

Dear Parents/Guardians, staff, and community members,

This letter is to inform you that Kispiox Community School has been exposed to another lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 between March 1st to March 5th, 2021.  Therefore, we will be closing the school immediately until after Spring Break and reopening on Monday, March 29th, 2021.   Safety precautions were put in place for the safety of the students and staff to minimize further cases of COVID-19, but it has become clear that COVID-19 is right in our communities and has placed everyone at risk.

Northern Health follows up with those who have been identified as a close contact and notifies those who need to self isolate.  No students were at the school during this time, so if there are any notifications staff will be notified if they have been in close contact with an identified individual.  However, it is important that parents/guardians remain vigilant and continue to monitor their children for symptoms.  It is important to remember that:

“People with COVID-19 are considered contagious (infectious) from 48 hours before onset of their symptoms (before they may realize they are sick), up until 10 days after their symptoms began.”

The pod in Glen Vowell will be closed immediately as of March 10th, 2021 until further notice for the safety of students, staff, and community members.  The Senden pod will remain closed and will continue with online/remote learning during this period.  The Hagwilget pod will remain open until further notice from the Hagwilget Band Council until March 12th, 2021.  COVID-19 is very fluid, and conditions change rapidly, so if there are any new developments the Hagwilget community will be notified.

Again, our thoughts and prayers are with those families and individuals who have been affected by COVID-19.  Be safe, take care, and be kind to one another.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 250-842-6148.
