September 4th, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians and community members,
This is just a friendly reminder to parents/ guardians and community members who may have missed out on the principal’s message that was put out on our school website and community page last week. If you missed the message you can go to our school website and just click on the bold letters to read the message. There is also a copy of the school restart plans, which are standard throughout the province and which will answer many of the questions you have regarding COVID-19, control measures, administrative measures, student transportation, personal measures, respiratory etiquette, personal protective equipment, cleaning disinfection etc.
Here is a breakdown of our school reopening plans for the first week of school. Our school reopens on Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 for staff and we will be meeting to form a health and safety committee and to review how the health and safety guidelines as prescribed by the BC Centre for Disease Control and the Provincial Health Officer will be implemented in Kispiox Community School. On Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 the teachers and staff will be planning and preparing for the upcoming school year. Student orientation will begin with a gradual restart to the school year on Thursday, September 10th for students from Kindergarten to grade 3 where students will be welcomed, and procedures will be reviewed. On Friday, September 11th, 2020 there will be orientation for students from grade 4 to grade 7. These orientation days will be for only a half a day and then the students will be allowed to go home.
The numbers we have for students who will be receiving in class instruction and for those whose parents are requesting remote learning fluctuates daily so as you can appreciate this takes a lot of planning in trying to meet the needs of everyone. We are working with a few communities to provide a catchment area where students can go in the community to receive help and for online learning. More information will be provided on class cohorts and schedules before the year restarts on Monday, September 14th, 2020. I would also like to inform parents/ guardians that we have hired two new teachers, Sarah-Monique Chanona (Grade 7) and Benjamin McIntosh (grade 4/5). Enjoy the rest of your summer!
