December 9, 2021,

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,

The Anspayaxw School Society is pleased to inform you that Alison Stevens has accepted the position of Principal at the Kispiox Community School effective January 4, 2021. Alison has a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of BC and is currently enrolled in the Master Of Leadership in Education at Yorkville University.

Alison is a Anspayaxw Community member born and raised an alumnus of Kispiox Community School (KCS). Alison is Gisgaast and is a member of Wilp’s Gwi Yeelth/Xaantxw. Her Gitxsan name is Wax Gyap.

With over 10 years of experience as an educator in both public and band operated schools, Alison’s experience will help us grow and become recognized for academic excellence.

Alison is a role model and will be an inspiration to all KCS students by encouraging students to dream and achieve their goals. Alison states, “I have always believed that education is more than just what goes on inside the wall of the schools; it is about interconnectedness with one’s community and environment, all of which should be done while promoting the Gitxsan Language and Culture. In addition to educating the whole child, I believe strongly in community and family involvement, to deliver culturally relevant curriculum that is committed to each student’s success in learning, within a responsive and safe environment.”

We believe that Alison will seize this opportunity to move Kispiox Community School into the 21st Century Learning by implementing innovative technologies, outdoor education, and place-based education where education is personalized to meet the needs of individual students in an effort to increase student engagement and improve student outcomes.

We look forward to working with Alison as she develops a school of excellence.

Sincerely,

Lillian Gogag, Administrator
